Instructions for framing and fitting out the Echo cross-section model
In 2012, David Antscherl and Greg Herbert held an in-person workshop on the
framing of a cross-section model for Echo, a sixth-rate ship-rigged sloop built in 1782.
In 2015, David and Greg took the cross-section to another level by publishing a manual describing how to fit out Echo. For many years, the instruction manuals were sold on the Admiralty Models website. Since the retirement of Admiralty Models, they were no longer available to the modeling community. David and Greg have graciously given permission to the Nautical Research Guild to republish the manuals.
About the Monograph
The downloadable 98-page monograph is a combination of the original workshop manual and the fitting-out manual. There have been some minor changes to reflect updated vendors, and a comprehensive table of contents has been added. Templates for all the frames and the sheer plan in 1:48 scale are included, as well as a complete scantling list. Like all of David’s books, the instructions are very detailed, and it is extensively illustrated with sketches and construction photographs. Photographs of the completed model, both in-frame and fitted-out are provided. This PDF format monograph may either be printed for easy reference in the shop or viewed on your computer.
No special tools are required to complete the model, but you will need to source several thicknesses of wood. This is an excellent first step into the world of scratch building.
Downloadable Monograph
The kit's downloadable monograph will be sent to you via email after your order has been placed. The monograph is in PDF format and requires the ability to view PDFs on your computer. Click here to learn more about viewing PDF files.
